The GR-7 is a long-distance trail stretching from Andorra to the Strait of Gibraltar. As a long-distance trail, it is marked with red and white blazes. It was the first long-distance trail to be waymarked in Spain (work began in 1974), and its route follows the eastern side of the peninsula, set back from the coast. It forms part of the European E-4 trail (Tarifa–Sparta), continuing through France and Andorra (where it also bears the GR-7 designation). In the Alpujarra region, Stage 12 runs from Mecina Bombarón to Cádiar, passing through Bérchules and Alcútar. Therefore, these trails offer a great option if you are staying in Bérchules and wish to visit some of the villages near Bérchules and Alcútar.
