The legend of the little king

The legend of the *Reyecillo* (Little King) is linked to Abén Aboo the final leader of the Moriscos during the Alpujarras Rebellion and is centered on the Tajo del Reyecillo cliff.
Abén Aboo was the last king of the Moriscos, having succeeded his cousin Abén-Humeya whom he assassinated to seize the throne; however, his reign, like his cousin's, lasted only ten months, spanning from July 1570 to May 1571.
Local folklore recounts that, while being pursued by King Philip II’s troops during the final stages of the uprising, Abén Aboo fled on horseback and plunged into the void from the sheer cliffs of the Tajo del Reyecillo.
According to the legend, his leap carried him across the river, leaving the imprint of his horse's horseshoe etched into a rock on the far bank—a spot known today as "La Pata" (The Hoofprint).
For years, local oral tradition has preserved accounts from shepherds who claimed to see the figure of a mysterious horseman galloping along the mountain crags at dusk.
