This square is known locally as Plaza de la Alsina, as it is home to the stop for buses operated by the Alsina company. Its official name, Plaza Padre Emilio, pays homage to a priest who was born in this village. The plaza forms the shape of an almost perfect square.
Here, communal games are played during the festivals that take place in April and July, and it also serves as the venue for the children’s attractions. The communal games that take place here include the famous ribbon-plucking on horseback and bicycle, in which looped ribbons are hung from a wire strung across the square and riders have to pluck them by passing a stake or short stick through the loop. The ribbons are usually painted for the festival by the local residents. Other games include the cucañas: paper lanterns or earthenware pots that are filled with sweets, toys, crisps and sawdust (like piñatas), then smashed with sticks by blindfolded children in order to release their contents.
This square is also used for loading the animals sold by the livestock farmers and shepherds of the municipality.
