A tinao is a vernacular architectural solution in which semi-private or semi-public covered spaces are created by laying a structure of beams across a street and building a room or private home on top of them. There are three types of tinao: those that form a passageway, those that are built between houses, and those that are adjoined to houses.
This particular example comprises a structure built on top of a series of beams supported by the buildings on either side of the street, thereby forming a passageway that remains public and accessible.
